There is zero new news in that article. There are, however, some terrible leaps of logic.

A typical MMO that is $15 a month also has about two expansions a year. They are smaller than Factions and cost $30. Do the math. 12 * $15 + 2 * $30 = $240. Guild Wars has two $50 expansions that can also be played stand-alone. 2 * $50 = $100. It's not even remotely close.

In those other MMOs, there is no opportunity to buy more character slots without buying a second account, so $10 versus no option at all seems pretty good to me.

This site has been posted before. It's probably just some disgruntled fan looking for attention. Seriously, was anything in his latest article new AND factual? He makes a lot of speculation with no proof to back it up. And the things he does mention, like paying for slots, he twists in a negative way.

I mean come on, I knew from day one that Anet were planning on having expansions every 6 months. Nothing new there. What the "writer" doesn't mention is that unlike other pay-to-play games, if you don't buy the next expansion, you can still continue to play the rest of the game as long as you like without paying anything further to Anet.

This bit is my best: "...and will likely require you to purchase additional character slots..."

Any proof? Nah. It's easier to write junk anonymously without providing proof....

A lot of hate in one site

I myself was one of the peeps running the "come on, give us more chara slots, we'll even pay for them"-campaign on the suggestions forum at one point, and I'm really glad they implemented it. Like people weren't buying additional accounts already at that point to get more charslots, paying even more than the new 'buy only slots'-theme costs

Fun read

I just love this one

ArenaNet has deviously decided to charge a staggering $9.99 US for each additional character slot on current Guild Wars accounts!
How devious, how staggering. The GW community is shocked

..... $10 for additional slots is, quite honestly, my dream come true. Unlike my mate and brother, I didn't get a second account and had resolved to be content with missing out on three PvE professions (4 slots = 3 primary PvEs + PvP/Preview/Whatever slot). Now that they're offering me the chance to have one of everything, though, I am extremely pleased.

"OMFG HIDDEN FEES" my tail. I <3 ANet's move here; it is proof positive that they still work to stay in touch with their customer base. Huzzah.

Though it is just a ploy to aggetate the community, alot of the information is based on facts that some people don't see.

Facts that of course are taken out of proportion and logic for his proposes, but facts I think the community should be aware of.

One such fact is Anet's constant battle to keep MMORPG players interested in their game since on the RPG level Guild Wars is NOT traditonal and lacks features and content that are expected in MMOs (one of the reasons Anet can even do that no monthly fee thing).

Well I can tell you for certain that they cant legaly ever charge for Prophecies, and factions. Here in the UK trading standards would have thier balls on a plate because on the front of the box they clearly state that its online gaming with no fee's. So unless they suddenly decide to stop selling in europe they wont be charging a penny for the service.

There are absolutely no plans for any fees to play. Character slots are purely optional to the player, one-off payments and will remain that way - and, as already noted, they will be implemented because you all asked us to.

You'll be playing Guild Wars for free as long as the servers are running. You'll always have the option of buying new chapters. Additional non-campaign purchases, such as character slots, will be your choice as well.

Now back in reality...

Those games have more content, without expansions, than both Prophecies and Factions campaigns combined. There are multiple servers and on each server you can have over 10 characters, no less than 6, with a much longer game length thus keeping you focused on one char for a decent period of time.

Not to mention there is perfectly adequate storage capacity on both the person and "bank" storage for each character.

He takes the wrong appraoch - Its not $100 a year for GW. THink like this, in April 2005 you paid $50 for GW. Thats it. All you need to do. Lets say you want to play guild wars the typical 3 years that MMOs run - $50 is the total you spent.

At the same time you bought WoW - and you wish to play it for 3 years - $50 for the game and 15*12*3 = $540 - total spent $590.

Say you bought an expansion for each game - GW total is now $100 and WoW total is now $620. People can doctor the numbers for yearly averages but when you stack up the total cost of ownership over the time played - GW will always win that one.

Somehow, more character slots = advantage in PvP.

More developed characters? Did he forget that you create PvP characters at level 20?

Gotta love all those flaming fanboys who think Anet is some form of non-profit organisation. The payable character slots are already there, you can't seriously think that this will be the end of those "additional features"...

Alex... storage??

Yeah some of us will buy back the character slots shaved off on linking.
Can we avoid having to buy many mules as well and get the xunlai agent storage back that was also shaved off? What happened to holiday storage, superior rune of holding for bags, hey how about a keyring? Seems this game is designed to make a mini-game of non-stop cleanup. And lack of real auction/trade options in game make it that much harder to unload them appropriately. Even D2:LoD expanded the storage, and I'll avoid talking about how many characters you could make there.

If there's one thing I'll need before going any further in GW it's to see something coming our way in that regard before chapter 3.

Considering I could put bags in storage *with things in it* in now old old EQ, this minigame is getting old.

And regarding getting what we asked for...

Well we asked you to leave in those slots but we got that 'x100%' where Canthans can't play missions before LA and Tyrians can't play Shing Jea Island missions, there's a division of VSquare (foreign, local) and other things that make it tougher to group up as you might like and achieve that 100%.

I lmao when people complain about a.net....deal with soe for awhile and tell me how bad a.net is.....Anyways...I personally love the idea of $10 char slots...and i dont personally think that i NEED factions or even the 10$ slots to stay competative or to continue to have fun but i will prob. buy some just to help ensure that a.net does make a profit and continues to prosper....they NEED to prosper and make money to keep the game going....it's not a free game people. but it is a hell of a lot beter than pay to play on a monthly basis...i did that for years with swg for myself and for my wife and i tell you 30 bucks a month sucks just to play a game.
